Under virtual-learning-tool we subsume all kinds of virtual/ internet-tools that can serve for educational purposes.
Sometimes these tool are especially made for educational purposes, like learning-platforms or interactive-learning pages) and others are not primarily intended to be educational but do very well fit the requirements, such as video-sharing or blogs.
In this Wiki we will take a look at the following tools:
Of course these are not the only tools that can be used for online-learning, but maybe the most used ones. Everyday new tools get developed and with some creativity lots of them can be used in one or the other way for educational purposes.
To build up a virtual- or blended-learning course ususally one of the tools wouldn't be enough, but you will have to cleverly combine various of these tools to provide broad and professional virtual-learning opportunities.
Of most of the tools there are free and also commercial versions. Both types have their advantages and disadvantages:
Free-Ware:
- low cost
- often no need to register
- often with advertising
- often limited functions
- no individual branding
Commercial-Products:
- no advertising
- full functions
- support from provider
- individual branding normally possible
- higher cost (but sometimes discounts for educational use)
Which option to choose depends on the needs but also very much on the budget available.
