Function
The definition of educational objective serves to have a clearly defined goal, which the learning-unit intends to reach. The overall goal can be divided into sub-objectives to give more structure to the learning-process.
Ways of achieving function
At the end of the introduction the learning objective of the unit should be defined, so that the learner knows exactly which goal to reach. The easiest way to set the learning-objective is of course that the teacher himself presents the topic and the goal. But the process can also be the other way round – the students themselves deduce questions that they want to work with/ solve and by this define the learning-objective. The second of course helps to motivate the learners.
To refine the broad unit-objective, further subquestions can be collected and used to structure the learning steps.
