Pairs


Working in Pairs is one possible social-form in teaching. Problems, tasks etc. is given to a pair of students, who have to work on it together. Apart form the content the participants learn to socially interact as dialogue is inevitable. This is especially interesting in intercultural pair-settings, where participants interact intensively with a partner form another culture. Furthermore the partners are supposed to exchange thoughts and ideas and help and motivate each other. By this the acceptance of differentness is promoted.

Real interactions are provoked by choosing tasks and problems, which can only be solved through collaboration and dialog.

Advantages:

  • Social interaction (in best case with partner from another culture)
  • Partners can motivate and help each other

Disadvantages:

  • often requires more time than Individual Working or Frontal Teaching
  • requires discipline from students
